“On the 29th of May, 15 representatives from DRETNS went to Cork City Sports in MTU this year. We got a bus at 10:30 in the morning to go to MTU. We had four teachers with us, Adam, Dónal, Molly and Mairéad. When we arrived there were so many people. We had to stick close to our teachers so that we wouldn’t get lost. We got our jerseys and split into groups. The boys went with Mairéad and Dónal as their heat was first. Adam and Molly went with the girls.
We went to an empty patch of grass to sit down. We ate our lunches and chatted for a while. We saw the boys getting ready for their heat and went over to watch. From the 2012 boys, Hayden in Cillian’s 6th class, came first in his heat and moved on to the county quarter finals. From 2014, Demir in Dónal’s 4th class, came first as well and moved to the county quarter finals which took part on the track. Demir, unfortunately, didn’t make it past the quarter finals but Hayden made it all the way to the finals.
After that it was the girls turn. From 2012, Mila, in Cillian’s 6th class, made it to the county quarter finals. Eimear, from Holly’s 5th, won her heat and made it to the county quarter finals as well along with Isabelle, from Aoife’s 5th. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it past that but it was great fun. Everyone there was very nice and it was a great day out. Our day ended by 3:30/4:00.”
