We Did It – Amber Flag Achieved! 🥳

Jun 16, 2025

We’re delighted to announce that our school has been awarded the Amber Flag by Pieta House in recognition of our dedication to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing throughout the year!

Our Amber Flag journey was led by David and Emer, along with an enthusiastic committee of nearly 20 children from across the school. Together, they planned and carried out a wide range of activities to support wellbeing, teamwork, and physical health.

Highlights included a fantastic Mental Health Week filled with fun activities like Zumba, basketball, cycling, and dance, and the return of our school radio station, DRETNS FM, hosted by David and joined each week by different children from our Amber Flag Committee for music, games, and good vibes!

We also celebrated teamwork through our Cairdeas buddy classes, held joyful yard dance parties, and kept moving with training for events like the Cork City Sports. As part of our fundraising efforts for Pieta House, we held a hugely successful Crazy Hair Day, where creativity shone – including Amélie’s donut hairstyle and tray headpiece and Rebecca’s alphabet-themed hairdo!

To round off the year, we completed beautiful whole-school art projects including our Wellbeing Garden and Gratitude Wall, reminding us of the many things we value and appreciate in our lives.

A massive thank you to our wonderful students, staff, and families for embracing our Amber Flag goals so wholeheartedly. This award is a symbol of all the incredible work we’ve done – and just how much fun we’ve had doing it!
